Anyone else out there have trouble throwing away scraps of pretty papers? I keep all mine and then create great cards using punches.
The Everyday Label Punch, from Stampin’ Up! has a fun and unique label style shape end. It can be used in creating a unique card. The most common way to use this label shape is for stamped greetings or sentiments on a card. However, I love to use the Everyday Label punch has the design end to create unique backgrounds for my cards.
To create these cards, begin by gathering up your Designer Series Papers (DSP) and seeing which ones look great together. I choose to use the DSP from the paper pack Waves of the Ocean and the Blue Foils.
I dry embossed the Blue Foils with the Seashells 3D Embossing Folder and then punched out some labels from the Foils and the DSP. To extend the stock pile of labels, cut them in half.
I then cut a piece of Stampin' Up! grid paper to 9" long and 3 3/4" high as my surface to adhere all the tags to. This is longer than a regular slimline card and will be trimmed down later.
Run a strip of glue along where the first row of labels will be set down on. Start the first piece at any point of your paper, ensure to have the 'bump' of the label hand below the grid paper.
Use the grid lines to position the label so that the left side is along the grid line and that the quarter rounded part of the label end is along the grid paper edge. This will help keep all of the pieces you lay down straight.
Use another label and match up the quarter circles. Continue along the paper using different papers until the row is done.
As you work your way up on each row, position the first piece 1/4" or less from the seam of where the two quarter circles come together.
Continue along each row with DSP and/or Foil, ensure not to have the same DSP beside or on top of each other. Keeping the DSP alternating or different from the one beside it will give the card a nice design.
Repeat until you have filled the grid paper with labels but leave about 1/2" of grid paper exposed on the top. You will use the top edge of the grid paper as your base to trim down the edges.
Trim down the sides so that the length of the piece is 8 1/4" long.
Turn the piece so that the overhanging 'bumps' are at the 3 1/4" or 3" mark and trim off the excess.
The final piece should be 8 1/4" x 3" (or 3 1/4")
Stamp a sentiment from the Slim Sayings Stamp set in Night of Navy Ink on a piece of Basic White Cardstock that is 8 1/2" x 3/4".
Place on a strip of Night of Navy cardstock 8 1/2" x 1" and mount on the top edge of the label piece.
Adhere this to a slim line card base that is 8 1/2" by 7", scored at 3 1/2".
This is a fabulous way to use up your scraps and get your money’s worth.
