What Is Your Scrapbooking Style?

We don’t all walk the same way, talk the same way nor should we scrapbooking the same way. We each have our own personal knack of doing things. While some of us may prefer pocket scrapbooking to a traditional 12″ x 12″ layout, others may love lots of embellishments and lots of extra trimmings. The point is, it doesn’t really matter what your style is so long as it’s useful for you and you are getting your happy scrapbooking away.

Knowing what YOU like best is important as you try to investing your time, your money, and your artistic energy for scrapbooking. It can be really difficult when you don't even know where to start. Knowing what you want your layouts to look like and what items you like to work with helps you to focus on creating the way you want your books to flow.

One great way to learn is by looking at what other people are creating and trying it out for yourself. This might seem like "the easy way out" or cheating, but scraplifting allows you browse through others' layouts and look for techniques or designs that stand out to you.
Scraplifting can run the spectrum from a nearly identical copy (even using the same kit or supplies) of a layout created by someone else to a source of inspiration for overall composition, color scheme, title work or even just placement of a few key elements. You then copy the design using your own materials and photos. The more you do this, the more your confidence will grow and the more apt you are to break out and find your own style.

Or try one of my very favorites, the Memories & More Photo Pocket Pages. Rather than a single 12″ x 12″ page, try using a pocket page, or even mix a 12x 12 page with a pocket page as a double layout! You can get as creative as you’d like, or keep things simple and fill most of your pockets with photos and ready-made pocket cards or cut up some Designer Series Papers to slip into the slot.  If you’re short on time and still want to scrapbook pocket scrapbooking allows you the simplicity to add your photos first and fill in the empty pockets later.

Don’t feel like you have to create page after page of masterpiece scrapbook pages.

Scrapbooking magazines and idea books are great inspiration, but many new scrapbookers are more intimidated than inspired. You don’t need to create visual masterpieces on your very first try or your hundredth. Scrapbooking is for fun and personal fulfillment, not a chore. Enjoy the pages you make, and always be open to leaning a new style, try classes and join in on events to expand your scrapbooking world.
